Thornton Academy | Saco, ME
The renovation work at Thornton Academy included many of the existing campus buildings. The existing library was moved to the old gymnasium to make room for the Arts and New Media Center to take its place.
The Arts and New Media Center features flexible classroom types that can house music, photography, and video production classes. The client wanted a dynamic space that reflects the type of learning they envision in the future. A video production room with a green screen allows for the creation of the daily video announcements.
The new library features a curved circulation desk with administrative offices and a private study room to allow student to collaborate in an otherwise quiet room. The existing ceiling was removed to reveal the original trusses and was left exposed.
Work for this project was completed while at PDT Architects.
